Construction Supervisor License Search

When is a Construction Supervisor License required?

Construction of all one and two family dwellings and all buildings containing less than 35,000 cubic feet of enclosed space must be under the supervision of a person licensed by the State Board of Building Regulations and Standards as Licensed Construction Supervisor.

(NOTE: if you are hiring a contractor to work on an EXISTING OWNER OCCUPIED ONE TO FOUR FAMILY DWELLING the contractor must also be registered by the State Board of Building Regulations and Standards as a REGISTERED HOME IMPROVEMENT CONTRACTOR.

Are there any exemptions from the Construction Supervisor License requirement?

The Mass. State Building Code Provides exemptions for the following construction related activities:

• Roofing
• Exterior siding
• Erection of rooftop solar collectors
• Construction of swimming pools
• Erection of signs
• Erection of tents
• Replacement windows not involving structural modifications
• Any building which is subject to construction control
